Cocktail for a mad scientist
Like a true mad scientist, play with density and mix a special potion. A classic New York sour is tart and fruity while still retaining the vigor of a mixed beverage. A red wine float brings the fun and makes this drink a genius option for a grown up mad science themed party.
New York Sour
2 ounces whiskey
1 ounce lemon juice
1 ounce simple syrup
1/2 ounce red wine
Add ice to a cocktail shaker. Shake the whiskey, lemon juice, and simple syrup until chilled. Strain into a rocks glass over fresh ice. Hover a bar spoon just over the sour with the back facing up. Pour the wine over the bar spoon. Stand in awe of the magical power of density as the wine floats on top of the sour.
Notes: My favorite wine to use in a New York sour is Malbec. Try substituting maple syrup or brown sugar syrup in place of regular simple syrup to up the fall flavor. Give it a nickname like “The Density Sour” on a Halloween menu.
